Acclaimed Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones,DJ Joe Mfalme and MC Samora are all set to perform at the Africa City Challenge Basketball tournament on Friday 16th June at the Nyayo Stadium Indoor Arena. The 5-day event that features 6 teams from 6 East African city basketball powerhouses competing in 11 games kicks off in Nairobi, Kenya from June 11th -16th, 2017.
Ahead of his performance, hip hop top artiste Khaligraph Jones says, “I am glad to be part of this inaugural basketball event that brings together East Africa. I will be representing my city, everyone come through and support your team and city as well,” adding, “Just like music, sports should unify us all.”
The same was echoed by award-winning DJ Joe Mfalme who says, “Being part of this event is such an honor. Let’s do it for the music, sport and more so East Africa. On Friday, come out for an amazing night.” The two will be flanked by MC Samora who promises a night of amazing performances and music, saying “We are ready to bring the house down as we cheer the Best basketball team in East Africa.”
The teams drawn from the East African cities of Nairobi, Mogadishu, Juba, Kampala, Mombasa and Dar es Salaam are comprised of the top 10 male All-Star players from each city – These 10 man city teams will be competing for cash prizes amounting to over Ksh 1.5 Million. The top three teams will walk away with a cash prize between Ksh. 250,000 and Ksh. 620,000.
The winners from the Africa City Challenge and selected city teams from West and Southern Africa will later be invited to compete in the inaugural ACC-AFRICA tournament. This event will take place annually and is positioned to take advantage of the growing basketball interest amongst Africans who not only love the game but enjoy the fashion, the music and the entertainment that go hand in hand with the second most popular sport in the planet.
As the exclusive broadcast partner Kwesé Free Sports, will provide live coverage for each of the games. For the first time basketball fans across the continent can watch East Africa’s best basketball teams battle it out daily as two live games will air on the channel each evening. - Wednesday: SEMI FINALS (KNOCK – OUT) –WIN OR GO HOME!
- Friday 16th June: 2 Live Games (ACC Championship Game)
