Davido Music Worldwide signed rapper, Dremo, from Nigeria is certainly one of Africa’s hottest and fast rising rap acts. Having delivered exciting punch lines and catchy hooks in songs like “Who”, “Iro Nla”, “1-2 Bang” with Davido and “Back 2 Back” with label mates: Mayorkun and Ichaba – Dremo will this year make his Big Break on Coke Studio Africa – 2017. The show has already paired him with legendary South African music group: Mafikizolo and celebrated multi-talented Kenyan artist Nyashinski. The pairing expected to orchestrate music collaborations that will light up dance floors across Africa – from west to South and back to East Africa – will be produced by top South African pop music producer: Sketchy Bongo.
During Coke Studio recording in Nairobi, Dremo spoke about his Coke Studio Africa – 2017 feature ahead of his anticipated debut on the show. “I am looking forward to getting more exposure and fans from allover Africa. I want to explore.” He expressed interest in working with Coke Studio Africa – 2017 artists: Sauti Sol, Nasty C, AKA, and Emtee and Cassper Nyovest from Coke Studio ZA – 2016.
While at Coke Studio, Dremo also announced that his new and untitled EP will be released soon. The artist also revealed how personal most of his songs are to him, sharing the inspiration behind his song “My Next Single” –that was inspired by discouraging fan mail that he received via Instagram. He says: “The song means that if you’re trying to stop me then you are a big liar. Haters can’t steal my shine.” Dremo asserts that his brand is all about happiness; “I am just a happy boy who makes happy boy music.” He says that since, the letter inspired him to push himself harder.
For second year in a row, Coke Studio Africa is giving a chance to fast rising, up and coming, artists to feature on the show on the Big Break segment where they collaborate with industry greats. Other Big Break artists on this year’s show include: Mashayabhuqe (South Africa), The Band BeCa (Kenya), Denise (Madagascar), Shellsy Baronet (Mozambique), Ozane (Togo), Worlasi (Ghana) and Ykee Benda (Uganda). Uganda’s sensational singer Lydia Jazmine is Coke Studio Africa’s first artist to be featured on the show’s Big Break artist to return only a season later as a Main Artist.
